in Salem

Didn't get on computer last night. We made between Memphis and Nashville last night. Started out about 8 :15 AM and stopped for the night around 5:30. Drove 580 miles. Stopped for lunch at a rest stop about an hour or so from Memphis.

Went down for breakfast this morning and had car packed and on the way by 8:00 AM. Thanks to the GPS sailed through some big city messes that would have had us pulling our hair out. Stopped for lunch at a rest stop in TN between Jackson and the VA border. It was a lovely wooded area and spent an hour just walking around and enjoying the scenery and our lunch. Made it to Salem, VA. tonight. We will stopping in this area on our way back home. Drove 560 miles today. Those energy drinks don't work for Lloyd. I drove for about an hour today while he took a nap. This was AFTER he took one of the drinks :-) We only have about three hours drive tomorrow so will probably visit Mt. Vernon now instead of on way home.

packing car

Well, tomorrow is the day. All groceries are bought, all chargers packed, and GPS loaded. Most of the car is parked except for suitcases and the one with all the grooming goodies. Fridge is cooling and have been packing it.

Between our next door neighbors, David and Cindy the animals should be taken care of. Not sure Angel is ready for this though. Cindy brought over a "few" goodies bags for Ashley. Should get her through a couple of weeks :-)

Our first stop for the night will probably be other side of Memphis. Wherever the "mood" hits us. With a book to listen to, the drive will probably be longer than without. Will be in DC on the 2nd.

Summer trip planning

I had so much fun using a blog last year for our car trip decided to do it again this year. We will be leaving a day earlier than planned as we are meeting Stephen's family in DC.

Have been busy making lists of things to do before we leave, food to buy for on the trip, and packing list so we don't forget anything. Neighbors are going to take care of the dogs in exchange for use of the pool and David will take care of the bird and cat. So I think we are covered there.

Lloyd has made the spread sheet to keep track of our expenses, gas mileage, etc. Books have been downloaded for listening while driving. Amazing how fast time passes when you are involved in a book on disk ( or actually mp3).

Not sure how much I will post before we leave, but wanted to get this started.
